The cozy December month is behind us again. Maybe you celebrated Sinterklaas or Christmas with your family or friends in the form of a fun gift or dice game. In preparation for such a game, one person looks very seriously at his or her stake for the presents, the other perhaps less so. Of course it's about the fun, but maybe you went home at the end of the evening with a bag full of stuff that you don't need or will use at all. These items end up in the closet or are even quickly disposed of. Shame!
Today we are part of a disposable society. All items for sale in shops are of a lower quality than a few years ago and therefore do not last as long. In the past, if you were handy, you could repair one or the other if something broke. Not anymore nowadays. Mass production is running at full speed. Founding RataPlan tries to make a difference here, together with many other companies.
Buy second hand
A while ago we shared on our social media channels the tip to also look at the thrift store for a gift game! Not only do you turn your back on mass consumption and the throwaway society, you also support people with a distance to the labor market. Bee RataPlan we believe that everything and everyone deserves a second chance and that is why we try to create as many jobs as possible for people who cannot fully participate in our society.
By offering or buying second-hand items, you increase the lifespan of a product. As a result, you do not contribute to the large amounts of waste that (can) be extremely harmful to our environment. If you buy something second-hand, you save raw materials, energy and waste that are needed to make new things.
Don't throw anything away – participate in Durable January
During the month of January we call on you not to throw anything away, but to donate! Visit one of our 32 branches and give your old, usable items a second life! There are plenty of people who can (or sometimes have to) score an entire new outfit at the thrift store for a small amount of money. But furniture that is no longer of value to you can also make someone else very happy.
The challenge is to look around you at things you no longer need and to donate them so that you make someone else - and the environment - happy with it. In this way we hope to be able to reduce the waste mountain somewhat and to relieve the environment a bit. Are you joining us?
