Gon Buurman (80) comes out of the circle with a whole stack of books. "Look, Murder in the vegetable garden from Nicolien Mizee, that is just out and I am buying here for only € 1,50. ”She shows another book, Manual for cleaning women with a beautiful historic photo of New York on the cover. I buy this book because it has been published so beautifully. I can really fall on books. My whole life I have been a book freak. At home I have a whole wall of books. "
Your own book in the store
Tucking around among the books in the cycle is an outing for Buurman. She thinks of everything, "I have also found a book of my own." Gon Buurman was a professional photographer until she retired. She has made wonderful books for, among others, The Anne Frank House with photos of survivors of the camps. Another photo album of her has the beautiful title No lack of passion, a book about the disabled she made with Karin Spaink. "I am really proud of that book." No wonder the photo bookcase has its special interest. Usually Buurman goes to Rataplan in the Slingelandtstraat. She lives in the Jordaan and then it is not far to cycle with a bicycle bag full of books. And she always takes a camera with her, "You keep photographing, you never know what you'll come across."
