Jan works as a manager in Rijswijk, the new location of RataPlan which will open June 24. Yet he does not originally come from the circulatory system. Jan has worked in healthcare for 33 years before this. Jan: 'After my work in care, I am a volunteer at RataPlan ended up in Naaldwijk. I did this for two years and then I was asked to be a manager in Naaldwijk. After doing that for a year, a new opportunity came my way a few months ago, starting the new branch in Rijswijk. ' And of course Jan grabbed it with both hands.
Various activities as a manager
'I started at RataPlan as a volunteer in the book department, but now I am doing something completely different. As a manager I spend about 80% of the time on the work floor and I am involved in supporting and directing the employees. In addition, I spend 20% of my time on administration, because that is also important. Starting up a new branch is completely new to me. In addition to the well-known activities, you actually start with nothing at a new store. Not only does the store have to be completely built up, the team you do everything with also has to be created. So recruiting new employees is something completely new for me, but I really enjoy doing it.
I believe it is important that employees have a job that they enjoy and that make them happy. Knowledge and experience is less important within the recycling industry, the pleasure and the opportunity to develop is the most important!'
Special finds at RataPlan Naaldwijk
'The most special thing I ever found in the thrift shop was a silver bread bowl from the Gist Brocades in Delft. Furthermore, Jan comes across beautiful glassware, decorated glasses, vases, porcelain and English ceramics. 'People throw away really special things!' Furthermore, Jan sets certain goals every day, so that it is a challenge every day to achieve the set goal. 'It motivates and makes everyone feel good when it's finished!'
In his spare time, Jan likes to assemble building kits, for example a steam locomotive or the Eifel tower. He is also a music lover. And last but not least, Jan likes to visit thrift shops. Unfortunately, he has been there since his job as a manager RataPlan a lot less time. On the other hand, in those three years he has experienced many beautiful moments with his colleagues. 'Especially the wonderful memories of working together with the employees in Naaldwijk, there was never a wrong word. It was a great team!'
With Jan as manager in Rijswijk, this also promises to be a well-oiled machine but above all a fun team where job satisfaction predominates. If you are curious about the new thrift store in Rijswijk, you are welcome to visit us from Thursday 24 June.
