The Week Without Waste and we think it is very important to participate in this great initiative. Every year we throw away approximately 490 kilos of waste per person. Fortunately, this has already been reduced a lot by buying and donating second-hand items and by recycling and reusing as many products as possible. But this is still a lot.
Tips for less waste
Accept the challenge and try to throw away as little as possible. For example, buy second-hand more often, donate your things at the thrift store, give your clothes a second life, choose reusable packaging, avoid plastic as much as possible and repair broken appliances. Do you also participate during the Week Without Waste? And do you help to make the waste mountain a bit smaller?
Buy second-hand
Buying second-hand is very important to reduce the mountain of waste and prevent it from getting bigger. By buying second-hand and donating products to thrift stores, products are used longer and do not end up in the waste mountain and in the environment. And how nice is it to be able to buy unique items for less money in a sustainable way?
Furnish your own living room
In the video below from Environment Central tells Josse that her living room mainly consists of second-hand stuff, scored on the marketplace, the thrift store or even picked up for free somewhere. All of course much cheaper and more sustainable. We understand that Josse is a fan of buying second-hand with such a nice living room!
A homemade kitchen
Jimmy is also a fan of buying second-hand, but especially of working with second-hand materials and that's why he thinks, 'Second chance is first choice!Jimmy tells in the video below, made by Environment Central that he made his kitchen all by himself. A beautiful sideboard offered a solution, Jimmy and his girlfriend immediately saw a beautiful kitchen in this and look what a picture! We all want such a beautiful kitchen!
Give your clothes a second life
Finally, it is of course also very important to give clothing a second life. Wear that one shirt a few times longer or have your favorite jeans repaired so that you can use it again. Every little bit helps to reduce the mountain of waste! But are you really tired of your clothes and are you looking for something new? Then buy and donate your clothes at the thrift store near you. This gives your clothes a second life and you can give a nice second-hand outfit a second life! Are you curious about the RataPlan branches near you? You will find all our branches here!
We hope to have inspired you to join us during the Week Without Waste, from May 31 to June 6, 2021. We hope to receive you soon in one of our stores to find beautiful, second-hand gems or to donate.
